On July 13th, in order to promote green, low-carbon and high-quality development, and strengthen key core technology research and development, Wancho Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Wancho Environmental Protection") and Tsinghua University X-lab jointly held the SDG Open Innovation Marathon Challenge. The opening ceremony of the challenge was successfully held at Tsinghua University. Hao Xiuqing, Director of X-Lab at Tsinghua University, Zhang Zhongxin, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Su Ma Modern Industrial Park in Suzhou City, Chen Xi, Associate Researcher at the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, and Bian Zhiming, General Manager of Wancho Environmental Protection, attended the opening ceremony.

At the opening meeting, Hao Xiuqing and Zhang Zhongxin delivered speeches respectively. Hao Xiuqing pointed out that the 20th National Congress report proposed to strengthen the deep integration of industry, academia, and research led by enterprises, adhere to goal orientation, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and enhance the level of industrialization. As a leading local enterprise, Wancho Environmental Protection, and Tsinghua University as a university, this cooperation is a vivid practice of deepening the process of industry university research cooperation, an innovative form of solving technical problems for enterprises, and providing valuable practical experience for innovation education. Zhang Zhongxin pointed out that he hopes that through this challenge, both sides can explore more new models of industry university research integration, with technology research and development as the core, breaking through geographical and organizational boundaries, and building a deep communication platform between Tsinghua University and Wancho Environmental Protection, Tsinghua University and SuMa Park, effectively connecting knowledge and practice, and jointly creating a new situation of scientific and technological innovation.     

In the theme sharing stage, Chen Xi provided a detailed introduction to the research progress of his research group on new technologies for wastewater resource utilization under the national "dual carbon" background, including the separation, extraction, and transformation technology of high-value ions contained in water, water resources, and chemical energy. He inspired and guided the participating teams. The mentors of Wancho Environmental Protection Technology share challenge themes and project cases one by one, encouraging participating teams to focus on improving the quality and efficiency of sewage treatment systems, improving the entire sewage treatment system, or optimizing a certain treatment process to develop intelligent control systems.
